Christy Dignam with Damian Corless
Born in Dublin in 1960, Christy Dignam found his vocation to become a singer watching David Bowie perform ‘Life On Mars’ at the age of thirteen. Over more than three decades, he and his band Aslan have shared dizzy highs, crushing lows and several near-death experiences, to emerge as one of Ireland’s best-loved acts. Along the way Christy and Aslan have written hit songs that, as the comedian Tommy Tiernan observed, ‘have become part of the Irish DNA’.
Damian Corless has known Christy Dignam since the early 1980s when his band New Career played support to Christy’s Meelah XVIII at the legendary Ivy Rooms. Damian was MTV’s first Irish correspondent. He was editor of the culture guide In Dublin and Ireland’s top current affairs journal Magill. He has written television comedy for RTE and the BBC. He is the author of more than a dozen books, and the stage comedy Death Wish ’16: The GPO.
