RIP Anita Notaro

November 30, 2014

On an evening of high energy and camaraderie, a note of gloom punctuated many conversations at the Awards Dinner on November 26th, because that morning the death was announced of Anita Notaro who won the Popular Fiction Award in 2008. Anita had been ill for a long period but her death in her fifties was still shocking for her many friends in the book world and in RTÉ.  Few who witnessed her euphoria that night in 2008 will forget it; she had come to writing relatively late in life and she was justly proud of her latest achievement.  Anita is survived by her husband Gerry McGuinness and sisters Madeline, Lorraine and Jean to whom we extend our deepest sympathy.  RIP Anita.
